What if Big Goals Just 1% Better Each Day?

Starting small and building momentum is a major focus for me,inspired by books like Atomic Habits. The first book I had read. 

For years, I had tried workouts like HIIT and cardio to lose weight. I also tried to avoid white rice, replacing it with potatoes, and sometimes I only eat Tahu and Tempeh-you know, I'm Indonesian. But despite my efforts, it didn't work. My weight remained stuck at 56 kilos. My goal is to lower it to around 53 or even 50 kilos. So, I started searching a solution, a way to make it happen. I wonder if I might have PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome), a hormonal disorder. Why do I think that? Because my PMS symptoms often don't match with the estimated dates. Sometimes arriving a week early or late."


Everything Related to Food

After reading numerous articles about weight loss and PCOS syndrome, a thought suddenly struck me-what if I change my daily diet? Experts recommend consuming less sugar and fewer carbohydrates while incresing protein intake. So, as my first step, I tried to reduce my intake in all its forms-biscuits, junk food, donuts, chocolates, and basically everything that has added sugar.

Fortunately, I'm not addicted to sugar, so reducing my intake felt suprisingly normal. There was no drama-I didn't experience dizziness or fatigue and my cravings stayed under control. 

So, I made decision to cut off sugar completely from my diet. At the same time, I increased intake of protein and fiber. I also started drinking fresh vegetable juices-spinach mixed carrots cucumber blended with carrots, or sometimes apples for a natural sweetness.


After The First Week, I Started Noticing Changes

I have to admit, I did give up sugar for weight loss. But, after I change my diet, to my surprise, this changes to me:

  1. Felt more energetic
  2. No more craving junk food
  3. Lose weight naturally
  4. My skin become clearer
  5. My PMS symptomes now normal-early or late 2 or 3 days from estimated dates means normal.

 

Drinks Vegetable Juice Noticeabley Improve My Skin Tone

Within a week, I begin noticing changes-my skin became clearer, more even-toned and acne-free.
It felt moisturized and smooth. I also felt my body becoming fitter. When I first saw the changes, I was in awe. Speechless. How could somthing as simple as drinking vegetable juice make such a big difference to my skin?
Beyond appearance, my health improve too. I no longer experienced symptoms of PCOS, and I felt more energetic overall. It's truly incredible-this small change has benefited both my diet and my health in ways I never expected.

The Lesson

Building a habit isn't easy. It requires consistency-repeating it every single day, no matter what. That's where the 1% rule come in: focus on a small steps and repeat them consistenly. 

Don't rush yourself to make drastic changes all at once. Rushing will only leave you feeling overwhelmed, and make it harder to stick with your new habit. Instead, make it simpel, enjoyable, and sustainable so that you want to repeat it. 

Most importantly, set up an environment support that supports your goals. The easier and more natural it feels, the more likely you are to stay consistent without forcing it.
